A name in thread feels different from a name in ink. It has texture, it catches the light, and it lasts as long as the piece it's stitched on. BizzyStitchn offers personalized embroidery for names, initials, monograms, baby keepsakes and photo-based portraits, on everything from hoodies and caps to totes and blankets. Order a single piece, see it live in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is stitched, and give something people keep for years. For logos, team gear and every garment we stitch, see embroidery on apparel and more.
Names, Initials and Monograms Stitched to Order
Custom name embroidery is the simplest place to start, and most personalized orders fall into one of four formats:
- A full name across a chest, a hat side or a tote, in block or script lettering.
- Initials, two or three letters in a single style, often on a cuff, collar or pocket.
- A traditional monogram: for one person, the last-name initial sits larger in the center, flanked by the first initial on the left and the middle initial on the right. For a couple, the shared last initial goes in the center with each first initial on either side.
- A name plus a detail, such as a date, a title or a small icon.
Spelling is the one thing thread can't forgive, so we stitch exactly what's on your approved mockup. There's no minimum, so a single monogrammed piece costs the same process as fifty: see how one-piece orders, no minimum work from design to delivery.
Fonts, Thread Colors and Placement Choices
Fonts. Block and sans-serif letters stay readable at the smallest sizes. Serif fonts look classic but need a little more height so the serifs don't disappear. Script is the most elegant and the most demanding: give it at least 1/2 inch of height for lowercase letters. Varsity-style lettering suits team names and kids' items. Whatever you choose, your mockup shows exactly how it will stitch.
Thread colors. High contrast, like white on navy or navy on white, reads from across a room. Tone-on-tone, like charcoal on black or cream on oatmeal, looks quiet and expensive. One or two colors suit most names; save multicolor for monograms with a frame or icon.
Placement and size:
| Placement | Typical size | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Left chest | 3–4 in wide | Names on hoodies, polos and jackets |
| Cuff or collar | about 1 in tall | Discreet initials and monograms |
| Hat side or back | 1.5–2.5 in wide | A name or date next to a front design |
| Tote front | 4–6 in wide | Monograms and names for bridal parties |
| Blanket corner | 4–8 in wide | Baby names, birth dates, family names |
Baby Blankets and Newborn Keepsakes
Baby pieces are among the most treasured things anyone has embroidered. A blanket with a name, birth date, time and weight becomes a nursery piece, then a keepsake box piece, then something passed down. Plush minky and fleece need a water-soluble topping and a light base layer of stitches so letters sit on top of the pile instead of sinking. Lightweight cotton and muslin need a stable backing that keeps the fabric flat.
On anything worn or held close, light, open lettering beats dense fills, because it keeps the reverse side soft against skin. Bodysuits, bibs and first-birthday outfits follow the same approach: browse monogrammed baby clothes for little ones' styles.
Photo-to-Stitch Line Art Portraits
A clear photo of a pet, a grandparent or a couple can become stitched line art: clean outlines that capture a face, an ear shape or a familiar pose. It isn't a photo printed in thread; it's a drawing made of stitches, and that's why it looks so good on fabric.
Photos that work best are sharp, well lit and taken at eye level, with one subject facing the camera. Faces need room, so plan on at least 3 to 4 inches wide. The art is rebuilt by hand through our photo-to-stitch digitizing process, which carries the same one-time $35 fee as any design, and you approve the mockup before stitching. Pet portraits look especially good on fleece; see our pet portrait sweatshirts for ready-to-stitch styles.
Personalized Wedding, Family and Event Gifts
Thread suits occasions because it outlasts the day. Popular ideas:
- Weddings: names and dates on totes, hats and sweatshirts for the wedding party, or a couple's monogram on a keepsake blanket. Monogrammed tote bags are the classic bridesmaid gift.
- Family reunions and trips: matching shirts or caps with the family name and the year.
- Milestones: retirements, graduations and anniversaries marked with a name and a date.
- Memorial pieces: a loved one's handwriting or signature rebuilt in thread.
- Workplace gifts: a branded jacket or quarter-zip with each employee's name under the company logo, a thoughtful mix of branded and personal.

Name Patches vs. Direct Embroidery
Direct embroidery is stitched straight into the garment. It looks cleanest, can't peel or fall off and is the right call for gifts, monograms and anything you'll keep.
A name patch is stitched separately and then attached. Patches make sense when the item can't be hooped (padded backpacks, finished leather, thick work jackets), when a garment is shared or reissued and names change, or when you want the same name on several items. Hook-and-loop backings let names swap in seconds on uniforms. If that fits your situation, see our iron-on name patches, also available sewn on or hook-backed.
Holiday Gift Ordering Timeline
Personalized gifts take a few more steps than buying off a shelf: you send the names, approve a mockup, and then each piece is stitched and shipped. Every step goes faster when you plan backward from the day you need the gift in hand:
- Collect the details first. Exact spellings, dates and font choices for every recipient, in one list.
- Start your designs or bulk quote early. Late October and early November give you room to change a font or thread color without stress.
- Approve promptly. Production starts when the mockup is approved, not when the order is placed.
- Build in shipping time. Carriers get slower in December, so plan delivery with margin, or pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse if you're in the Orlando metro.
Share your in-hand date when you order or request a bulk quote, and we'll confirm it before you approve. Cutting it close? Rush orders are available, with the rush fee quoted with your order.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you embroider a name on clothing I already own?
No. We don't embroider clothing customers send in; we stitch names on the blanks we supply. That keeps quality and sizing consistent, and a mistake never ruins a piece you can't replace. Choose a hoodie, cap, tote, blanket or other item from our catalog, add the name and placement, and your mockup shows exactly how it will stitch.
What fonts are available for name embroidery?
Block, sans-serif, serif, script and varsity-style lettering all stitch well when they're sized correctly. Block letters stay readable down to about 1/4 inch tall, while script needs at least 1/2 inch for lowercase. Tell us the look you want, and your mockup shows exactly how the name will stitch before you approve it.
Can you do custom embroidery from a photo?
Yes. We turn a clear photo into stitched line art, which works beautifully for pets, people and places. The photo is rebuilt by hand into a stitch file for the one-time $35 digitizing fee, and once that's paid you can download the file from your account; reorders of the same design skip the fee. You approve a mockup before anything is stitched.
Can you embroider a baby blanket?
Yes. Fleece, minky and cotton blankets all take a name well; plush fabrics get a topping so letters sit on top of the pile, and light, open lettering keeps the reverse side soft against skin. A name with a birth date, time or weight in the corner is a classic layout. We stitch the blankets we supply rather than ones customers send in.
How long does personalized embroidery take?
It depends on how quickly you approve your mockup, whether the item is in stock and how many pieces you're ordering. Simple names move fastest; photo portraits take longer to digitize. Share your in-hand date when you order and we'll confirm it before production starts. Rush orders are available, with the fee quoted with your order, but ordering early for holidays and big events is still the safest plan.
