How Price Breaks Work at 100, 500 and 1,000 Pieces
Bulk custom patches get cheaper for one simple reason: the setup work is the same whether you order 10 or 1,000, and a bigger order spreads it across more pieces. The product page shows the live per-patch price for the quantity you enter.
For embroidered patches, setup is the one-time $35 digitizing fee per design, which turns your art into a stitch file. Here's how much of that fee each patch carries at bulk quantities:
| Quantity | One-time digitizing fee | Share per patch |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | $35 | $0.35 |
| 250 | $35 | $0.14 |
| 500 | $35 | $0.07 |
| 1,000 | $35 | $0.035 |
At 500 pieces, setup adds about seven cents a patch. That's the real lesson of bulk pricing: once you're past the first hundred, the fee barely matters, and the patch itself sets the price. Size, thread coverage, color count, border and backing decide what each one costs, and the base price falls as quantity grows because longer runs of one design mean less machine changeover per patch.
PVC and leather work the same way, with a bigger starting cost. PVC needs a mold for each design and leather needs tooling, so both are pricier for a few pieces and close the gap at volume.
Merch Lines and Resellers Stocking Branded Patches
Patches are one of the easiest merch items to sell. They're light, they ship in a flat envelope, they fit any jacket, hat or tote, and buyers collect them. Bands, creators, outdoor brands, breweries, coffee shops and gift stores all stock branded patches next to their shirts and hats.
Our wholesale pricing is volume pricing, open to anyone; for a formal reseller account program, ask us. If you're buying to resell, a few habits protect your margin:
- Run a test batch first. With no minimum on embroidered patches, you can order a small batch, sell it at a show or online, and only then order in volume.
- Build a core set. A few designs that sell all year, reordered as stock runs low, beat a dozen one-offs.
- Reorder the same design. Setup is one-time per design, so reorders skip the $35 digitizing fee and a proven design gets cheaper to restock.
- Price on landed cost. Add shipping and packaging to the per-patch price before setting retail.
You need to own the design or have permission to reproduce it. We'll ask if artwork looks like another company's trademark, so plan your merch around marks you control.
Bulk Iron-On Patches for Teams, Schools and Events
Iron-on backing is the most popular choice for big giveaways, because anyone can apply the patch at home with a household iron. A layer of heat-activated adhesive on the back bonds to cotton, denim, canvas and cotton-poly blends.
Bulk iron-on orders we see most often:
- Schools and PTAs: spirit patches for backpacks, jackets and field-day shirts.
- Youth leagues: a season patch for every player's bag or jacket.
- Camps and scout-style groups: achievement and session patches handed out by the dozen.
- Races, festivals and conferences: a keepsake in every swag bag.
- Companies: onboarding kits with a logo patch for a jacket or laptop sleeve.
For anything washed hard, like work jackets or team warm-ups, iron the patch on and then run a few stitches around the edge. Skip iron-on for nylon, leather and rain shells; those need sew-on or hook-and-loop. Our heat-seal patches page covers application in detail.
Embroidered Patches by the Hundred: Scheduling and Packing
Embroidery is the workhorse of bulk orders. It's the most economical construction at volume, it handles bold logos and lettering well, and it looks like what people expect a patch to look like. Our stitched logo patches come with a merrowed or heat-cut border and sew-on, iron-on or hook-and-loop backing.
Plan the schedule backward
Your production schedule starts when you approve the mockup, not when you place the order. For a launch, a tournament or a conference, put your in-hand date on the order and approve the proof quickly. Bulk orders of 100+ pieces get a free mockup from our team to approve before anything is produced. Rush orders are available for a fee quoted with your order; tell us your in-hand date and we'll confirm it before you approve.
Tell us how you need them packed
If the patches are going into kits, retail bins or separate locations, say so on your bulk quote request: counts per bundle, sorting by design, or part of the order going to a second address. We'll confirm what we can do before you approve.
Pickup or shipping
Every order ships anywhere in the US. Orlando-area customers can also pick up finished orders at our Orlando-area warehouse, which is handy for a few thousand patches the week of an event. We confirm a pickup time when the order is ready.
Keeping Cost Down Without Cheapening the Look
Plenty of people shop for cheap custom patches and end up with thin, fraying ones. You don't need to cut quality to cut cost. These choices lower the per-patch price while keeping a sharp result:
- Size to the spot. Price is figured on size, so a 3" patch costs noticeably less than a 4" one. Measure the hat front or chest before you pick.
- Drop the coverage. At 50% to 75% thread coverage, the twill becomes the background color and stitch counts fall.
- Limit the colors. Four strong thread colors read better at a distance than nine close shades.
- Choose a simple outline. Circles, rectangles and shields cost less to finish than intricate cut-to-shape silhouettes.
- Match backing to use. Hook-and-loop adds material and a sewing step; skip it unless you need patches to swap.
- Pick the right material. For large runs of a simple logo, embroidery usually beats PVC and leather on price.
Some patches shouldn't be trimmed, like a uniform patch that has to match a brand color or a premium merch piece meant to sell at a higher price. Spend on those, and save on giveaways.
Reorders, Stock Designs and Split Orders
The cheapest patch you'll ever order is a reorder. Once a design is digitized, the stitch file is downloadable in your account. Setup fees are one-time per design: reorders, and the same design on other products, never pay them again; only a design change needs new setup. That applies to the $35 embroidery digitizing fee and the screen-print setup on 100+ piece orders. PVC and leather pricing includes any tooling and is shown in your quote. Keep thread colors and backing the same and each batch matches the last.
Companies that outfit staff often run their patches as a standing program: a stock of logo patches on the shelf, plus personalized name patches ordered as people join. If that sounds like your crew, see how uniform patch programs work, from sizing to reorder planning.
Several designs can go in one order, such as a main logo, a secondary mark and an event patch. Each embroidered design carries its own one-time digitizing fee. Ordering hats, tees and hoodies with the same mark? We decorate those too, so your patches and bulk branded apparel can come from one shop with each method's setup paid once.
Frequently Asked Questions
At what quantity do bulk discounts start?
There's no single cutoff. The per-patch price starts falling as quantity rises and keeps falling into the hundreds and thousands, and the product page shows the live price for your quantity. If you only need a few right now, see our small orders with no minimum; you can order more of the same design later without a new digitizing fee.
Do you sell wholesale to resellers?
Anyone can buy wholesale custom patches to sell: brands, bands, shops and creators do it all the time. Our pricing is volume pricing, so the more you order, the less each patch costs. If you're looking for a formal reseller or wholesale account program, ask us. You need to own the design or have permission to use it.
What's the cheapest patch type to make in bulk?
Embroidered patches are usually the most economical at volume, especially with 50% to 75% thread coverage, a few colors, a simple shape and iron-on or sew-on backing. PVC and leather need a mold or tooling for each design, so they cost more to start, but they're worth it when you need waterproofing or a premium finish.
Can I split a bulk order across several designs?
Yes. You can put several designs in one order, each with its own size and backing. Every different embroidered design carries its own one-time $35 digitizing fee; the same design in a second size isn't charged again, and reorders skip it. If parts of the order need to be packed or shipped separately, note it on your order, or on your bulk quote request for 100+ pieces, and we'll confirm options first.
How long do bulk orders take?
It depends on quantity, size and material, and the schedule starts when you approve your mockup. PVC and leather need tooling that embroidery doesn't. Rush orders are available for a fee quoted with your order; tell us your in-hand date and we'll confirm it before you approve.
Can I pick up a bulk order instead of having it shipped?
Yes. Orlando-area customers can pick up finished orders at our warehouse, or we'll ship anywhere in the US. We confirm a pickup time when the order is ready. Pickup is handy for event organizers and Central Florida businesses collecting several boxes of patches right before a launch, a tournament or a conference.
Can you make personalized patches in bulk, with a different name on each?
Yes. Name patches are a common add-on to bulk logo orders. Send a list of names in a spreadsheet with the spelling exactly as it should appear, and each name is stitched in the same font, color and size. There's no minimum per name, so new hires can be added later.
