Pet Portraits Stitched From Your Photo

Embroidery turns your photo into thread. First the portrait is simplified into clean shapes, then it's digitized: converted into a stitch file that tells the machine where every stitch goes. That digitizing is a one-time $35 fee per design, and once it's paid, the file sits in your account to download and reuse. Reorders of the same design skip the fee.

There are two main embroidered looks:

  • Line art: an outline of your dog's face, ears and markings in one or two thread colors. Clean, minimal and easy to wear anywhere, and usually the most affordable stitched option.
  • Filled portrait: blocks of thread color that capture fur color, a white blaze, one floppy ear. More stitches, more depth, and a raised texture you can feel.

Printing is the other route. DTF reproduces a real photo, whiskers and all, with no setup fee, which makes it the better pick when you want photographic detail rather than a stitched illustration. If you're torn, request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces and ask for both on your free mockup. You can read more about our pet embroidery service, including thread, backing and placement.

Dog-Face Sweaters for Humans, Not Dogs

Let's clear up the confusion: every custom dog sweater on this page is made for you to wear, decorated with your dog. The classic version is a single face on the left chest or centered on the front. The louder version is an all-over print, where sublimation repeats your dog's face across the entire sweatshirt in a pattern your friends will never forget. We don't offer sublimation, but a big DTF print of that face comes close.

Want the full matching moment? We don't carry apparel made for pets to wear, but your dog can star on the whole family's sweatshirts. And if you'd rather have a hood, the same artwork works on our dog-face hoodies.

A few placement ideas that work well:

  • Small embroidered portrait on the left chest, name on the sleeve
  • Large printed face centered on the front, about 10 to 12 inches wide on adult sizes
  • Tiny paw print on the cuff or back neck as a quiet detail

Cats, Multiple Pets and Memorial Designs

Cats get the same treatment. A personalized cat portrait works just like a dog one, and the stitched line-art style suits cats especially well, since whiskers and ear tufts read clearly in thread.

For multi-pet households, everyone fits. Two or three pets sit comfortably side by side across the chest; four or more usually look better as a printed group or a row of smaller faces. Each extra pet adds stitches to an embroidered design, so a three-pet portrait costs more to stitch than a single face.

Memorial sweatshirts deserve extra care. A portrait with your pet's name and years, a small halo or a favorite saying makes a personalized keepsake you can wear on hard days. If your best photo is older or blurry, printing often keeps more of the real expression than embroidery, and our photo-printed sweatshirts are built for exactly that.

Personalized Dog Mom and Dog Dad Sweatshirts

Some of the most-loved designs are mostly text: "Dog Mom" across the chest with the pup's name down the sleeve, a "Cat Dad" crewneck, or every pet's name stacked like a team roster. A personalized gift like this works for birthdays, Mother's Day and new-puppy announcements, and it pairs perfectly with a small stitched portrait.

Planning matching outfits for the humans too? Our personalized family sweatshirts carry the same names and themes across the whole crew.

Pet businesses order these too. Groomers, vet clinics, trainers and doggy daycares use branded staff sweatshirts with their logo on the chest and a dog illustration on the back. A branded order follows the same steps as a personal one, with the $35 digitizing fee paid once for the logo.

Holiday and Ugly Christmas Pet Sweaters

Your dog in a Santa hat is the easiest holiday sweater win there is. Popular ideas include a dog portrait wearing reindeer antlers, a printed pattern of pet faces between snowflakes, and "Naughty or Nice" with your pet's name checked on the naughty side.

These designs book up fast once December arrives, so start early. For more seasonal ideas, from family sets to office-party showstoppers, browse our ugly Christmas sweater designs.

How to Send a Photo That Stitches Well

The photo matters more than anything else. A few minutes with your phone saves a round of revisions:

  • Get down to eye level. Shots from above make heads look huge and legs disappear.
  • Focus on the eyes. If the eyes are sharp, the portrait will feel like your pet.
  • Use bright, indirect light. Window light or shade outdoors. Avoid flash, which flattens features and causes glowing eyes.
  • Show the markings. Send a second photo if a spot, blaze or ear color isn't visible in the main shot.
  • Dark coats need extra light. Black dogs and cats lose detail in dim photos; shoot near a window and pick a lighter garment or contrasting thread.
  • Send the original file. Screenshots and photos forwarded through messaging apps are compressed and lose detail.

Production Time and Gift Deadlines

Timing depends on the method and how quickly you approve your design. Embroidered portraits need digitizing and an approved proof before stitching starts, while DTF prints go into production once your design is approved at checkout. For birthdays, holidays and memorial gifts, tell us your in-hand date when you order, and we'll confirm it before you approve. Rush orders are available, with the rush fee quoted with your order. Orlando-metro customers can pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse, and we ship anywhere in the US.

In Central Florida, where even winter afternoons can be warm, a matching tee is often more wearable than fleece. Our dog photo t-shirts use the same artwork.

Care tip: wash inside out in cold water, tumble dry low or lay flat, skip bleach, and never iron directly on embroidery or prints.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you make sweaters for dogs, or sweatshirts with my dog on them?

Sweatshirts with your dog on them. This collection is sweatshirts and sweaters for people, decorated with your pet's portrait, face or name. We don't carry apparel made for pets to wear, but your dog's portrait can go on matching pieces for the whole family.

Can you embroider more than one pet on a sweatshirt?

Yes. Two or three pets fit comfortably side by side on the chest, and larger groups work as a row of smaller faces or a printed group portrait. Each added pet increases the stitch count, which affects price. The one-time $35 digitizing fee applies per design, so all your pets in one design means one digitizing fee.

What photo works best for a pet portrait sweatshirt?

A sharp, well-lit photo taken at your pet's eye level, with the eyes in focus and distinctive markings visible. Natural window light beats flash. Send the original file from your camera roll rather than a screenshot, and add a second photo if one shot doesn't show every marking or the true coat color.

Can I get my dog on a Christmas sweater?

Yes. We can add your dog to a holiday design wearing a Santa hat or antlers, print a pattern of pet faces and snowflakes with DTF, or stitch a portrait onto a knit sweater for something more classic. Start early in the season, since holiday orders stack up quickly as December approaches.

How long does a custom pet sweatshirt take?

It depends on the method, the order size and how fast the design is approved. Embroidered portraits need digitizing before stitching, while DTF prints start as soon as the art is approved. If you're shopping for a birthday or holiday, share your in-hand date when you order and we'll confirm it before production starts. Rush orders are available, with the fee quoted with your order.
