Youth Sizes That Match Your Adult Order
The easiest way to dress a family or a team is one design across every size. Youth, toddler and adult shirts can go in the same order, in the same color, so the photo looks like it was planned. Kids' chests are narrower, so the design is resized to sit in proportion: about 8 to 10 inches wide on a youth tee, 6 to 7 inches on a toddler shirt and around 5 inches on baby sizes.
DTF resizes freely with no setup fee. Screen printing and embroidery setup is one-time per design, so a youth or toddler version of the same design is never charged setup again. For reunions and vacations, our custom family shirts collection covers matching sets for every generation.
Personalized Birthday and Name Tees
A name turns a shirt into a keepsake. Popular personalized kids' tees include birthday shirts with the child's age in a big number, "Big Sister" and "Little Brother" sets for a new baby, first-day-of-school shirts and grandparent gifts with a grandchild's drawing printed exactly as drawn.
Scan or photograph a child's artwork in good light, and the original lines and colors carry straight onto the shirt. For more starting points, browse these t-shirt design ideas. You'll preview your design in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is produced, so check the spelling of every name.
Toddler Tees and Baby Shirts
Toddler shirts typically run 2T through 5/6T, and baby sizes by months. Little ones need softer, simpler decoration:
- Print rather than stitch for babies. Embroidery backing on the inside of a shirt can feel scratchy on sensitive skin; a soft DTF print is more comfortable.
- Keep it small and bold. Short words and simple shapes read better on a small chest than detailed art.
- Choose tagless or tear-away labels to avoid neck irritation.
We carry baby bodysuits too, so the littlest family member can match everyone else in the photo.
Soft, Kid-Friendly Blanks and Inks
Kids wear shirts hard: playgrounds, popsicles and the washing machine twice a week. Good blanks for kids include:
- Ringspun cotton: soft, light and comfortable, the best choice for everyday and gift shirts.
- Heavyweight cotton (about 5.3 oz): thicker and tougher for rough play and school uniforms.
- Performance polyester: wicks sweat and dries fast for sports, camps and Florida summers. Decorate it with DTF (sublimation also works, though we don't offer it).
DTG uses water-based inks that soak into cotton fibers, so the print feels like part of the shirt. DTF, the method we print with, leaves a thin, flexible film that stretches with the fabric. For layering on cool mornings, add kids' custom sweatshirts in the same design. We decorate the blanks we supply, so pick from the styles in this collection.
Group Orders for Leagues, Camps and Classrooms
Youth groups need two things: matching shirts and a way to tell kids apart. A few proven approaches:
- Teams: shared logo on the front, personalized names and numbers on the back. Our sports and department shirts cover league rosters and coaches.
- Camps and VBS: color-code each age group or cabin with the same design on different shirt colors.
- Field trips: neon green, safety orange and bright yellow help chaperones count heads in a crowd.
- Schools and clubs: school spirit shirts cover spirit days, clubs and graduation, with youth and adult sizes mixed.
Daycares, dance studios and youth sports academies use branded kids' tees as uniforms and merch, and branded camp and league tees work as fundraisers when parents and siblings order adult sizes too. Collect names and sizes with a simple form before ordering. If the season starts soon, rush orders are available, with the rush fee quoted with your order.
Youth Tees Without a Big Minimum
There's no minimum, so one birthday shirt is a complete order. DTF has no setup fee, which makes it the natural fit for a single personalized tee or a small sibling set. Screen printing, for league or camp orders of 100+ pieces through our team, carries a one-time setup fee quoted with the order. Embroidery has a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design. Reorders, and the same design in another size, never pay either setup fee again. Browse more no-minimum custom tees for small orders in every size.
Kids' Size Chart and Fit Tips
Sizes vary by brand, so always check the chart on each product page. As a general guide:
| Size | Kids' size number | Rough age |
|---|---|---|
| Baby | By months (for example 6, 12, 18, 24 months) | Under 2 years |
| Toddler | 2T, 3T, 4T, 5/6T | About 2 to 6 years |
| Youth XS | 4–5 | About 4 to 5 years |
| Youth S | 6–8 | About 6 to 8 years |
| Youth M | 10–12 | About 9 to 11 years |
| Youth L | 14–16 | About 12 to 14 years |
| Youth XL | 18–20 | About 14 and up |
For growing kids, size up one if the shirt needs to last a season. Cotton can shrink slightly in a hot dryer, so wash cold and tumble dry low. Older teens often fit adult S better than youth XL.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can custom kids t-shirts match the adults' shirts?
Yes. Kids and adults can share the same design and shirt color in one order. The design is scaled to fit smaller chests, so it looks proportional on a toddler and a grown-up alike. You'll preview it in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is produced, and orders of 100+ pieces get a free mockup showing the sizes.
Can I order youth t-shirts with no minimum?
Yes. You can order a single youth, toddler or baby shirt. DTF printing has no setup fee, so one personalized tee carries no extra charges. League or camp orders of 100+ pieces can switch to screen printing, where the one-time setup spreads across more shirts.
What sizes do toddler and baby shirts come in?
Toddler shirts typically run 2T, 3T, 4T and 5/6T. Baby sizes are listed by months, usually from about 6 to 24 months, depending on the style. Youth sizes run XS through XL. Check each product's size chart for exact chest and length measurements before ordering.
Are your inks safe for kids' shirts?
Kids' shirts are printed with the same apparel inks as adult shirts. We print with DTF; for reference, DTG uses water-based inks, and sublimation dyes the fabric itself, leaving nothing on the surface. Wash new shirts before the first wear. If you're selling children's apparel and need product-safety documentation, note that we don't provide compliance documents such as CPSIA certificates.
Can each kid's shirt have a different name?
Yes. Each shirt can carry a different name, number or both, added one by one with DTF, which has no setup fee. Send a list of names and sizes with your order, and double-check the spellings in your mockup before you approve it.
