Face and Photo Ugly Sweaters for the Office Party
Nothing gets a louder reaction at a holiday party than a coworker's face on a reindeer's body. Faces need full-color printing: DTF reproduces skin tones, grins and Santa hats on a fleece sweatshirt, and sublimation (not something we offer) can repeat a face across the entire garment, front, back and sleeves, like a knitted pattern.
Any custom Christmas sweater with a picture lives or dies by the photo, so a few tips:
- Send the original file. Screenshots and photos forwarded through messaging apps get compressed and print soft. Upload the image straight from your camera roll.
- One clear face per person. Daylight, eyes toward the camera, no sunglasses. A busy background is fine; the face is the part we use.
- Get a yes first. A personalized face sweater is funnier when the person on it is in on the joke.
Like the idea but not the season? The same printing works on our photo sweatshirts for any season.
Matching Family Christmas Sweaters, Each One Personalized
Matching doesn't have to mean identical. Pick one base design, like a snowflake band, a gingerbread house or the family name and year, then make each sweater personalized with a first name, a title ("Head Elf," "Cookie Inspector," "Chief Present Shaker") or that person's face. Everyone gets their own, and the group photo still looks planned.
A few habits make family orders smoother:
- Collect every size first, including the toddler who grew since last December.
- Keep names short. Ten characters or fewer reads cleanly across a youth chest.
- Use one garment color for the whole set so the print colors look consistent in photos.
Because there are no minimums, you can add the forgotten cousin later. For sets the family can wear well past New Year's, see our matching family sweatshirts.
Branded Holiday Sweaters for Company Parties
A branded ugly sweater is a party outfit, a team photo and a piece of company merch in one. Offices use them for sweater contests, client gifts, holiday open houses and the group shot that ends up on the company page. Put the logo where it would sit on any real merch, on the left chest or across the front, then surround it with as much tinsel as your brand guidelines allow.
Here's how we'd plan a company order:
- One design, individual names. Keep the logo and artwork the same for everyone and add each person's name to the back or sleeve. DTF handles name changes piece to piece with no setup fee.
- Screen print big identical runs. When 100+ people get the exact same sweater, screen printing through our team is usually the economical choice. Setup is quoted with the order.
- Embroider the tasteful version. A stitched logo on a knit sweater makes a client gift people wear in January. The one-time $35 digitizing fee covers the design, reorders of it skip the fee, and the stitch file is downloadable from your account, so next year's branded polos or jackets can reuse it.
- Collect sizes in one sheet. Name, size, unisex or women's fit, and the name to print. Missing sizes delay more office orders than anything else.
Companies across the Orlando metro, from Kissimmee to Lake Mary, can pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse, and we ship branded holiday orders anywhere in the US.
Knit Look vs. Printed Fleece: What You're Getting
Here's the honest part. Some custom ugly sweater makers knit your design into the yarn itself, stitch by stitch, on a jacquard knitting machine. We don't. BizzyStitchn decorates sweaters and sweatshirts, which means we print or embroider your design onto the garment. That trade-off works in your favor more often than you'd expect.
| Option | How it's made | Photos and faces | Colors | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Knitted-in jacquard (not offered here) | Design knitted into the fabric, one sweater at a time | Simplified into a pixel grid | A handful of yarn colors | Thick, textured, warm | Traditional look, cold climates |
| Sublimation all-over print (not offered here) | Dye bonded into polyester fleece, edge to edge | Yes, photo quality | Full color | Smooth, no added layer | Knit-look patterns, wild designs |
| DTF print (DTG not offered here) | Ink printed into cotton, or a printed film heat-pressed on | Yes | Full color | Soft (DTG) or a light surface layer (DTF) | Faces, photos and names on fleece |
| Embroidery on a stocked knit | Thread stitched onto a real knit sweater | No, simplified line art only | Thread colors | Real knit with raised stitching | Names, monograms, logos |
| Screen print | Ink pushed through one screen per color | Not ideal | Spot colors | Durable, slightly raised | Big identical office runs (100+) |
Sublimation is how many decorators get the classic sweater look, with Fair Isle bands, snowflakes and reindeer rows printed in full color on a polyester sweatshirt. It feels smooth rather than textured, and it can't go on cotton or dark garments, but it can put your dog, your boss and a pixel reindeer in the same pattern. We don't offer sublimation, but DTF prints a knit-look design in full color on any sweatshirt. For a closer look at each method, see our full-color sweater printing options.
If you want a genuine knit, choose one of our stocked knit sweaters and add embroidery: names, a monogram or a small logo. The stitches sit on top of a textured surface, so we keep designs bold and simple enough to stay crisp.
Designs From Tacky to Tasteful
Decide how loud you want to be, then design to match.
- Maximum tacky: faces on elf bodies, cats in Santa hats, a sweater-pattern frame around the family photo, or a "Naughty List" with every name crossed out except yours. All-over sublimation handles this best, though we don't offer it; a big DTF print gets close.
- Inside jokes: the office printer that never works, the family's worst holiday photo, the year the turkey caught fire. One line of text plus one image reads better than five of each.
- Tasteful: an embroidered monogram on a knit sweater, a small tree on the left chest, or the family name and year across the back.
- Room for DIY: plenty of contest winners sew on pom-poms, bells or tinsel after the sweater arrives. Tell us where they'll go and we'll keep the artwork clear of those spots.
One rule: we can't reproduce movie characters, team logos or other artwork you don't own. Original ideas, your own photos and your company's own logo are fair game. Stuck for a theme? Browse these sweatshirt design ideas.
Adult, Kids and Plus Sizes
Most of our sweatshirt styles run from youth through adult extended sizes, and every product lists its exact range. For mixed groups:
- Adults: unisex fits run roomy, women's cuts are more tapered. Lay a sweatshirt you like flat, measure armpit to armpit, and compare that number to the size chart.
- Kids: youth and toddler sizes get the same design scaled down, so the family set still matches.
- Plus and extended sizes: the artwork scales up with the garment, so a design doesn't look like a postage stamp on a bigger chest.
- Pets: we don't carry apparel made for pets, but the dog's face can go on everyone's sweater.
Warmth matters too. A midweight 50/50 cotton-poly fleece is plenty for an air-conditioned office. In Central Florida, where December afternoons are often in the 70s, a lighter sweatshirt or one of our Christmas t-shirts is the smarter call for an outdoor party.
How Ordering Works
Custom holiday sweaters follow the same four steps whether you need one or a hundred.
- Choose the base. A fleece sweatshirt or a stocked knit sweater. The table above helps you pick.
- Send the idea. Photos, names, a logo or a sketch on a napkin. Design it live in our 3D Custom Designer.
- Approve the design. You see placement, size and colors before anything is decorated, and revisions happen here.
- We decorate and ship. One personalized sweater or the whole office, shipped anywhere in the US.
Order Deadlines for Delivery Before Christmas
We don't publish one Christmas cutoff, because timing depends on the method, the quantity and how quickly the design gets approved. What we can do is help you plan backward from the day you need sweaters in hand. That's the party date, not December 25.
- Design approval: do it early. DTF orders are approved in our 3D Custom Designer at checkout, embroidery and art clean-up orders get a proof, and 100+ piece orders get a free mockup. Slow approvals cause most late holiday orders.
- Setup: embroidery needs digitizing first and screen printing needs a screen for each color. DTF goes straight to production once the art is approved.
- Production: big orders take longer than a single printed sweatshirt.
- Shipping: carriers handle their heaviest volume of the year in December, and transit times stretch.
For early-December parties and holiday card photos, order as soon as your date is set; tell us your in-hand date when you order or request a bulk quote, and we'll confirm it before you approve. National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day falls on the third Friday in December, so if your office celebrates it, count back from there. Cutting it close? Rush orders are available, with the rush fee quoted with your order.
Care Tips So It Lasts Until Next December
Turn the sweater inside out, wash cold on a gentle cycle, and tumble dry low or hang dry. Skip bleach and fabric softener, and never iron directly on a print or embroidery. Knit sweaters keep their shape best when laid flat to dry. Store it folded rather than on a hanger, and it's ready for next year's party.
When the holidays wrap up, the same printing and embroidery work on our year-round sweatshirts and sweaters for families, teams and brands.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do custom ugly Christmas sweaters cost?
The price depends on the garment, the decoration method, the number of colors and how many you order. Setup fees are simple: DTF has none, embroidery carries a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design, and screen-print setup for orders of 100+ is quoted with the order. Per-piece cost drops as quantity rises, so 40 identical office sweaters cost less each than one personalized photo sweater. Design it live in our 3D Custom Designer, or request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces and we'll quote your exact sweater with a free mockup.
Can I put a picture or face on a Christmas sweater?
Yes. Faces and photos print in full color with DTF, so a family photo, a coworker's face or a pet portrait all work, on one sweater or fifty. Send the original image file rather than a screenshot, and check your design in our 3D Custom Designer to confirm placement and size before we print.
Are your Christmas sweaters knitted?
Our designs aren't knitted into the yarn. We print or embroider them onto fleece sweatshirts and stocked knit sweaters. That makes photos, faces, logos and unlimited colors possible, which knitted-in jacquard can't do well. If you want a real knit, choose a stocked knit sweater and add embroidered names, a monogram or a logo.
What's the last day to order for Christmas delivery?
There's no single cutoff, because timing depends on the decoration method, the quantity and how fast you approve your design. For early-December parties, order as soon as your date is set; tell us your in-hand date when you order or request a bulk quote and we'll confirm it before you approve. Rush orders are available if you're cutting it close, and carrier transit slows as December volume peaks.
Can you add our dog to a Christmas sweater?
Yes. A pet photo works just like a face photo: send a clear, well-lit shot and we'll place your dog in the design, Santa hat optional. Our dog-face Christmas sweaters collection has more ideas. We don't carry apparel made for pets, but your dog can star on the whole family's sweaters.
Is there a minimum order?
No. Order a single personalized sweater for yourself or enough for the whole department. Embroidery digitizing and screen print setup are one-time charges per design, so larger orders spread that cost further and reorders never pay it again. DTF has no setup fee at all, which makes it the go-to for one-off sweaters.
Is it a sweater or a sweatshirt?
It can be either. A true sweater is knitted from yarn, while a sweatshirt is cotton-poly fleece with a soft brushed inside. Fleece takes photos and full-color prints best, so most of our holiday designs go on sweatshirts. For a real knit, we embroider names and logos onto stocked knit sweaters instead of printing.
