Why the Richardson 112 Became the Classic Trucker
The 112 is the trucker most people picture: a structured, mid-profile six-panel crown, a pre-curved bill, a polyester mesh back and an adjustable plastic snap. Its front panels are a 60/40 cotton/polyester twill, while the back is 100% polyester mesh.
That construction is why decorators like it:
- A twill front, not foam. Foam-front truckers can compress under the needle. The 112's twill front, backed with stiff buckram, holds embroidery tight and keeps its shape after the hoop comes off.
- A mid-profile crown. It's tall enough for a bold logo but doesn't sit high like a foam trucker, so it suits most face shapes.
- Mesh for the heat. In a Central Florida summer, the mesh back moves air in a way a solid cap can't.
- Consistency. Reordering the same style and color gives you the same fit and shade, which matters when a crew orders in batches.
Logo sizing on a 112: most front logos land between 3 and 4 inches wide and up to about 2.25 inches tall, centered over the front seam. The mesh back and sides limit extra embroidery, so keep side hits small or move a website or tagline to the strap area.

Other Richardson Styles Worth Knowing
Richardson makes far more than one trucker. These styles come up most often for branded orders:
| Style | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 112FP | Five-panel version of the 112 with a seamless front | Wide logos and patches with no center seam |
| 115 | Lower-profile trucker that sits closer to the head | Smaller heads, relaxed fit, women's merch |
| 258 | Rope cap with a braided cord across the bill | Golf, lake and lifestyle brands |
| 326 | Unstructured, peach-brushed cotton twill dad hat with a cloth strap | Soft, low-key logos and personalized initials |
| R-Flex styles | Stretch-fit, closed back | Clean, finished back for uniforms |
We carry all of these styles, and each product listing shows its full color range. For a wider look at which blanks hold up best, read our guide to hat brands decorators trust.
Embroidered, Patch or Leather: Logo Options
Flat embroidery is the default on a 112: clean, durable and right for most logos. Each new design has a one-time $35 digitizing fee, you can download the file from your account, and reorders of the same design skip the fee.
3D puff embroidery raises bold letters and simple shapes off the twill front. It looks sharp on the structured 112 but doesn't suit fine detail or thin lines, so keep it for chunky wordmarks and team letters.
Patches give a badge look and suit the 112's firm front:
- Leather patches are the rugged, premium choice for breweries, outdoor brands and ranch-style merch. See our leather patch hat collection.
- PVC patches carry bright color and wipe clean, which helps for fishing and marine crews.
- Embroidered patches pack multiple thread colors into a bordered badge.
Printing with DTF covers full-color artwork that thread can't reproduce, with no setup fee, though embroidery and patches remain the most popular choices for Richardson caps.
Whatever you choose, you'll preview it in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is produced.
Teams and Shops: Branded Richardson Caps
Teams and leagues. Rec softball, travel ball, coaches and booster clubs like the 112 because one adjustable size covers most adult players. A common team build puts 3D puff letters or the team mark on the front and a player number on the left side panel.
Shops, breweries and crews. A branded 112 works twice: as the staff uniform and as merch at the register. Contractors, landscapers and pool-service crews add a company logo on the front and keep the color tight to their trucks and polos. If you're outfitting the whole team, our embroidery shop can stitch the same file on polos, jackets and hoodies so everything matches.
Personalized one-offs. A single 112 with a personalized name, a nickname or a hometown on the front makes a gift people wear for years.
Sizing, Colors and Split Colorways
Sizing. The 112 is one size with an adjustable snap, made to fit most adult heads, roughly a 7 to 7 5/8 hat size or about 22 to 24 inches around. For smaller heads, a lower-profile style like the 115 usually sits better. For a closed back, look at stretch-fit styles in banded sizes. Measure around your head across the mid-forehead and just above the ears, then check the size range on each listing.
Colors. The 112 comes in a long list of solids plus two-tone combinations, where the front and bill are one color and the mesh another. Some combinations use three colors across the front, mesh and bill, often called split or tri-color. Common favorites include black, charcoal, heather gray, navy, loden and khaki, often paired with white or black mesh.
Picking thread colors:
- Match thread to the front panel's contrast, not the mesh. A white logo on a charcoal front reads from across a parking lot.
- On two-tone hats, pulling a thread color from the mesh ties the design together.
- Tonal looks, like black thread on a charcoal front, feel premium for retail merch.
Order Quantities and Lead Times
There's no minimum, so you can order one 112 to check the color and fit before a bigger run. The price per hat falls as quantity rises because setup is shared and longer runs are more efficient. Each product page shows the live price for that style and color.
What moves the price per hat: the Richardson style, quantity, stitch count, number of thread colors, decoration method and how many placements you add.
Lead times: timing depends on quantity, decoration and proof approval. Tell us your in-hand date when you request a quote. If it's close, rush production is available, with the rush fee quoted with your order.
Delivery: every order ships anywhere in the US, and Orlando-metro customers can pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse, from Kissimmee to Lake Mary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Richardson 112 good for embroidery?
Yes. The 112's cotton/polyester twill front is backed with stiff buckram, so it holds both flat and 3D puff embroidery cleanly and keeps its shape. Front logos usually run 3 to 4 inches wide and up to about 2.25 inches tall. Its mesh back limits large back designs.
Can I order Richardson custom hats with no minimum?
Yes. You can order a single Richardson hat with your logo, name or embroidered patch, or a full team or bulk run; PVC and leather patch minimums vary by type. Logo embroidery has a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design (embroidered names are $10 per name), reorders of that design skip it, and every design is previewed live in our 3D Custom Designer, with a free mockup from our team on bulk orders of 100+ pieces.
How do Richardson hats fit?
The 112 trucker is a mid-profile, one-size cap with an adjustable snap that fits most adults, roughly a 7 to 7 5/8 hat size. Lower-profile styles such as the 115 sit closer to the head, and stretch-fit styles come in banded sizes. Check the size range on each listing.
What colors does the Richardson 112 come in?
The 112 comes in dozens of solid colors and two-tone or three-color combinations across the front, mesh and bill. Black, charcoal, heather gray, navy, loden and khaki are common favorites. Each product listing shows the full range of colors we carry.
What's the difference between the 112 and the 112FP?
They share the same trucker shape, fabric and snap closure. The 112 has a six-panel crown with a seam down the center of the front, while the 112FP has a five-panel crown with one seamless front panel, which gives wide logos and patches a smooth, uninterrupted surface.
