Restaurant staff need clothes that work as hard as they do: shirts that survive a double, aprons that take a splash and a logo guests remember. This collection is the restaurant corner of our work apparel and uniforms, picked for front-of-house, kitchen and bar teams. Below: what each role should wear, where the logo and names go, and how to keep a uniform program simple while you keep hiring.

Front-of-House Uniforms: Server Shirts, Polos and Hats

Servers, hosts and runners are the first people guests see, so their shirts set the tone before the menu does. Match the garment to the service style, then add the logo.

Tees or polos for servers and hosts

A soft tee in your brand color suits counter service, cafés and casual dining. A polo reads a step dressier and keeps its collar through a long shift, which is why many full-service rooms dress servers in embroidered business polos with a small chest logo. Put hosts and floor managers in the same style in a contrasting color, so guests know who to ask.

Fabrics and colors that last a double shift

Poly-cotton blends and moisture-wicking polyester dry quickly, resist wrinkles and hold their shape through daily washing better than 100% cotton. Black, charcoal and navy hide coffee and sauce; white looks crisp but shows every mark. For a warm dining room or a patio section, give the front team a lighter performance fabric.

Caps and visors for counter service

Quick-service and counter crews often add a cap or visor to keep hair tidy and the brand at eye level. Caps can be embroidered or DTF printed, while visors are embroidered only: a flat stitch suits a small logo, and 3D puff embroidery lifts a bold wordmark off the front panel. You'll find structured, mesh-back and low-profile styles among our branded caps.

Kitchen Uniforms: Chef Coats, Aprons and Cook Shirts

Back-of-house clothing lives with heat, grease and hot washes. Cooks who skip the coat often wear chef shirts (lighter short-sleeve button-fronts). We don't carry chef shirts, but short-sleeve button-ups and dark pocket tees from our logo work shirts keep the line matched without the bulk.

Embroidered chef coats with names

The chef coat is still the classic: a double-breasted front that can be rebuttoned to cover a stain, usually in a poly-cotton twill that holds a dense stitched logo without puckering. The restaurant logo goes on the left chest, and the cook's name or title (Executive Chef, Sous Chef) on the right chest or sleeve. We don't carry chef coats, but the same logo-and-name layout works on the aprons and work shirts we do carry.

Bib and waist aprons with your logo

In an open kitchen or behind the bar, the apron may be the most visible thing your staff wear. A bib apron takes the logo on the chest panel; a waist apron takes it on the front panel beside the pockets, never through them, because stitching across a pocket sews it shut. Canvas and twill aprons carry a stitched logo well, and our page on logo embroidery for work uniforms explains digitizing and thread choices. Branded aprons are ordered through a bulk quote or by contacting us.

What holds up to heat, grease and hot washes

Embroidery is the most durable decoration for kitchen clothing, because thread can't crack or peel. Prints hold up well on tees washed as the care label directs, though high dryer heat shortens any print's life. Pre-treat grease before it sets, wash whites on their own and skip fabric softener on performance fabrics, since it can trap odor and slow wicking.

Bar, Café and Food Truck Staff Shirts

Bars, coffee shops and food trucks usually want something looser than a polo. Bar staff shirts are often dark tees with a small chest logo and a bigger back print, plus a hoodie for patio nights. Café teams lean toward earth-tone tees under an apron. Food truck crews work in a hot box, so a light-colored performance tee and a mesh-back cap help, and the truck's name and social handle across the back turn every event into an ad.

If you also want shirts and hats to sell to regulars, our branded merchandise collection is built around merch people actually buy.

Where Your Logo Goes: Placement and Decoration for Restaurant Staff

Embroidery, DTF or screen printing (one method per item)

Each item is either embroidered or printed, and you choose which. Different items in one order can use different methods, so a common split is embroidered polos, aprons and caps with printed tees.

Method Best for restaurant staff One-time setup
Embroidery Polos, work shirts, aprons and caps; logos and names seen up close $35 per logo design; names $10 per item
DTF print Small crews, full-color logos, printed names, cotton or polyester tees None
Screen printing Runs of 100+ of one tee design with a bold back print (bulk quote) Quoted with your 100+ piece order

Embroidered logos can use up to 6 thread colors per design area, and the white underbase on dark shirts is always included in the print. Upload SVG or PDF (best) or a high-resolution PNG or JPG; AI and EPS files can be sent with a bulk quote.

Left chest, back and sleeve placements

The left chest is the standard spot on shirts, polos, coats and bib aprons, usually about 3 to 4 inches wide. The right chest or sleeve carries a name or role, and the back of a tee carries a larger graphic. Keep decoration clear of seams, plackets and pocket openings.

Names, Roles and Sizing New Hires

Names make service feel personal, and they help guests ask for the right person. Printed names carry no setup fee, which suits tees and roles with high turnover. Personalized embroidery looks sharper on polos and work shirts; each embroidered name is $10 per item, with no design fee. A role title such as "Server" or "Bar," stitched in one style, is one design you can reuse on every garment that carries it.

Collect sizes before you order: a simple sheet with each person's name, role, garment, size and cut (men's, women's or unisex). We carry women's cuts, tall sizes and 5XL and up, and keeping a couple of spares in your most common sizes means a new hire is in uniform on day one.

Restaurant Uniform Ideas That Match Your Concept

Start with the room, not a catalog. Pull colors from your signage, menu and interior, then decide how loud each role should be.

  • Fine dining: black or charcoal polos or button-ups with tonal embroidery (thread close to the shirt color), so the logo shows only up close.
  • Diner or burger bar: a retro two-color logo on a bright tee, with a slogan or your opening year on the back.
  • Café or bakery: earth-tone tees under canvas aprons, with a small chest mark on both.
  • Taqueria or food truck: a bold full-back print with your handle, plus a mesh-back cap.
  • Sports bar or brewpub: dark tees with a big back graphic that doubles as merch.
  • Openings and anniversaries: a limited staff shirt for the occasion that regulars will ask about.

Reorders and Uniform Programs as Your Team Grows

Restaurant hiring never really stops, so treat uniforms as a standing order. Setup fees are one-time per design: reorders, and the same design on other products, never pay them again; only a design change needs new setup. Keep a one-page spec with each role's garment, color, logo file, placement and thread or ink colors, and every reorder will match the last.

With no minimum, a single shirt for a new server is fine. For an opening, a second location or a refresh of 100+ pieces, request a bulk quote to get a dedicated account manager, a free mockup with unlimited revisions and our best volume pricing. Designer orders are previewed live in our 3D Custom Designer. Plain DTF print orders are approved in the designer at checkout, so they don't need a separate proof. Embroidery orders and orders with art clean-up get a proof to approve before production; nothing is stitched until you approve it. Rush orders are available for a fee quoted with your order; tell us your in-hand date and we'll confirm it before you approve. Orlando-area customers can pick up finished orders at our warehouse, or we'll ship anywhere in the US.

Merch to sell at the counter

Regulars will wear your logo if you give them something worth wearing. A soft tee with a bigger graphic than the staff shirt, a hoodie and an embroidered cap make a small rack by the register, and a logo you've already set up never pays setup again on new products. Start small, see what sells and reorder the winners; browse our picks for merch to sell at the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should restaurant staff wear?

It depends on the role and the room. Servers and hosts usually wear polos or soft tees in a brand color, cooks wear chef coats or dark tees with an apron, and bar and café staff often wear tees or long sleeves with an apron. Pick fabrics that wash well and colors that hide stains, then keep the logo and placement the same across every role.

Can you embroider chef coats and aprons with each person's name?

Aprons, yes. We don't carry chef coats, but button-up work shirts and polos take the same layout. The restaurant logo usually goes on the left chest and the name on the right chest or sleeve. Each embroidered name is $10 per item, with no design fee. Aprons are ordered through a bulk quote or by contacting us at help@bizzystitchn.com or (407) 391-5526.

Should we embroider or print our restaurant logo?

Embroider polos, aprons and caps: stitching looks professional up close and handles hot washes. Print tees, especially for bar, café and food truck staff or large back graphics; DTF has no setup fee and handles full-color logos. Each item uses one method, but a single order can include both embroidered and printed items.

Is there a minimum order for custom restaurant uniforms?

No. You can order one shirt for a new hire or outfit the whole team. Setup fees are the same either way: $35 per embroidered logo, nothing for DTF, and screen-print setup quoted with a 100+ piece order. For openings and refreshes of 100+ pieces, a bulk quote adds a dedicated account manager, a free mockup and our best volume pricing.

Can we reorder the same uniforms as we hire?

Yes. Setup fees are one-time per design, so reorders of the same logo, on the same garment or a different one, never pay them again. Keep a short spec sheet of styles, colors, sizes and placements, and a reorder of one apron or fifty polos will match what your team already wears.

What are good restaurant staff shirt ideas?

Pull colors from your signage and interior, then match the garment to the service style: tonal embroidery on black polos for fine dining, a retro logo on bright tees for a diner, a full-back print and social handle for a food truck. A limited anniversary shirt gives staff something new to wear and regulars something to ask about.
