Custom Running Hats & Visors

Custom running hats give your run club, race or athletic team something people wear on every training run, not just on race morning. Choose featherweight performance caps, vented runners or open-top visors in moisture-wicking, quick-dry fabric, then add a branded logo, the race name or a personalized PR. One hat or a full race field follows the same process. Need other shapes? Browse our custom hats for every sport.

Lightweight Running Caps and Visors

A running hat has a different job than an everyday ball cap. It has to stay put at pace, shed heat, keep sweat out of your eyes and still look good in the finish-line photo. These are the shapes runners reach for:

  • Unstructured performance caps. No stiff buckram behind the front panel, so the crown flexes and sits light on the head. Many have a soft bill that folds into a pocket or race belt.
  • Vented caps. Laser-cut perforations or mesh side panels let hot air escape. They make the biggest difference on humid, windless mornings.
  • Trucker-style runners. A lightweight front panel with a mesh back. Popular with trail runners and run clubs that want a relaxed, everyday look.
  • Visors. An open top lets heat leave straight off the scalp, and there's room for a ponytail or bun. They're also the favorite at tennis and pickleball courts (more on that below).

Fit and closures. Running caps usually close with hook-and-loop, a slide buckle or an elastic bungee toggle, all low-profile so nothing presses on the back of the head over a long run. Most adjustable caps fit roughly a 7 to 7 5/8 hat size, about 22 to 24 inches around. For kids' fun runs and youth cross-country, we carry youth sizes so the hat fits instead of being cinched down.

Moisture-Wicking and Waterproof Performance Fabrics

"Performance" covers several different fabric behaviors. Here's what each term means on a running cap:

Fabric or feature What it does Best for
Performance polyester Wicks sweat along the fibers so it spreads out and evaporates; dries fast Everyday training, hot races
Poly/spandex stretch blend Stretches to hug the head without a tight strap Long runs, stretch-fit caps
Nylon with a water-repellent finish Sheds drizzle and spray; dries quickly Rainy-season races, trail runs
Mesh or perforated panels Moves air through the crown Florida summers, track work
Wicking sweatband Pulls sweat off the forehead before it reaches your eyes Every running hat
Cotton twill Absorbs sweat and stays wet Casual wear, not running

Wicking versus waterproof. A wicking cap moves moisture out; a waterproof cap blocks it from coming in. You can't fully have both in one lightweight hat. A truly waterproof shell needs a coating or membrane plus sealed seams, and it traps heat. For running, a water-resistant, quick-drying cap is almost always the better choice.

Sun protection. If your group trains midday or runs long summer events, ask for a UPF-rated performance cap. We carry them, and lighter colors stay noticeably cooler in direct sun than black or navy.

In Central Florida humidity, sweat evaporates slowly, so wicking fabric and venting matter more here than in dry climates. That's why custom performance hats with wicking fabric and vents are our usual recommendation for Orlando-area groups from May through October.

Branded Race Swag and Run Club Hats

Races and 5Ks. A hat is the race swag runners keep using. Most race directors put the event logo on the front, the year or distance (5K, 13.1, 26.2) on the side, and the title sponsor across the back above the closure. Dressing volunteers and course marshals in a contrasting hat color helps runners find them at aid stations.

Run clubs. A branded club cap turns members into a moving billboard at every group run. With no minimum, new members can order one hat at a time, and the club's design never pays setup twice.

Teams, gyms and tri clubs. Cross-country and track squads, triathlon clubs, CrossFit gyms and boot camps all wear performance caps for training. Programs that also need game-day headwear can pair them with our team baseball caps using the same logo file.

Corporate wellness challenges. A branded running cap is a useful reward for finishing a step challenge or a company 5K team, and it gets worn outside the office.

Personalized finisher hats. A first half marathon, a new PR or a 50th birthday 50K deserves its own cap. Add the runner's name, finish time and date to the side, and it becomes a personalized keepsake rather than another medal in a drawer.

Hats look best as part of a matched kit. Many clubs order race-day performance tees in the same colors and logo, so the whole group stands out at the start line.

Reflective Trim, Printed and Embroidered Logo Options

Running caps are thin and light, so the decoration method matters more than on a structured cap.

Embroidery. Thread is the most durable option, and it holds up to sweat and repeated washing. On thin performance fabric, the stitch file is digitized at a lighter density with a soft backing so the panel doesn't pucker or feel stiff against the forehead. Simple logos with two or three colors work best. Each embroidered design has a one-time $35 digitizing fee, and you can download the file from your account afterward. 3D puff embroidery looks great on structured caps but needs a firm front, so it's not the right pick for soft running crowns.

DTF printing. Full-color race logos, gradients and sponsor art print cleanly with DTF. The transfer is thin and flexible, adds almost no weight, and has no setup fee.

Sublimation. On white or light polyester, sublimation (a method we don't offer) dyes the design into the fabric itself. There's nothing to feel, nothing to crack, and it can cover a whole panel.

PVC patches. A rubbery PVC patch wipes clean and ignores sweat and rain, which suits trail and obstacle-race hats.

Reflective details. For dawn and dusk runs, we carry caps with reflective trim built into the bill or panels. We don't offer reflective logos, but a white, bright or neon hat with high-contrast lettering is easier for drivers to see in low light.

Placement and size. On an unstructured running cap, front logos usually land around 2 to 3.5 inches wide. Side panels fit about 1.5 to 2 inches for a year, distance or name. A dark underbill helps cut glare off wet pavement and water.

You'll see your design live in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is produced, with every placement and color shown.

Visors for Tennis, Pickleball and Golf

Visors aren't only for runners. They're standard at tennis academies, pickleball leagues and summer golf leagues, anywhere people play hard in the sun and want air moving over their heads.

The front panel of a visor is shorter than a cap crown, so logos run wide and short, about 1.5 inches tall or less. Simple wordmarks and compact club marks read best. Look for a terry or wicking sweatband and a hook-and-loop or elastic back that sits flat under a ponytail.

Common visor orders include club logos for league play, tournament visors with the event name and year, and personalized visors with a coach's or instructor's name. Golf clubs often order visors alongside caps; see our golf hats with your logo for performance caps and rope hats that match.

Event-Day Timing for Athletic Hat Orders

Race hats are tied to a fixed date, so a little planning keeps them from arriving late:

  1. Count everyone. Registered runners, volunteers, staff and sponsors, plus extras for day-of registrations.
  2. Settle the size mix. Adjustable adult caps fit most heads. Add youth sizes if the event has a kids' run.
  3. Collect artwork early. SVG or PDF files are best; a high-resolution PNG or JPG is accepted, and AI and EPS files can be sent with a bulk quote. Missing sponsor logos are the most common holdup.
  4. Do the setup math. One embroidered front logo is a $35 one-time fee. Spread over 400 race hats, that's under 9 cents per hat. A sponsor logo on the back is a second design, and DTF prints skip setup altogether. Setup fees are one-time per design: reorders, and the same design on other products, never pay them again; only a design change needs new setup.
  5. Aim for packet pickup, not race morning. Tell us your in-hand date when you order, and we'll confirm the timeline with your mockup.

Running short on time? Rush orders are available for a fee quoted with your order. Race directors and clubs across the Orlando metro can pick up finished orders at our Orlando-area warehouse, and every order can ship anywhere in the US.

Caring for sweaty running caps

Rinse sweat and salt out after hard runs with cool water and a drop of mild soap, using a soft brush on the sweatband. Skip the dryer and dishwasher, since heat can warp the bill and loosen prints. Air-dry the cap on a rolled towel so the crown keeps its shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a running hat different from a regular cap?

A running hat is lighter, thinner and built to manage sweat. It uses wicking polyester or nylon instead of cotton, an unstructured crown, vents or mesh for airflow and a wicking sweatband. Closures sit flat for long runs, and many bills fold. A regular cap is heavier, holds sweat and gets hot over distance.

Can you embroider performance fabric?

Yes. We digitize the design at a lighter stitch density and use a soft backing, so thin performance fabric doesn't pucker or feel stiff. Simple logos with two or three thread colors work best. For detailed, full-color artwork on a running cap, DTF printing is often lighter and has no setup fee.

Do you make custom visors?

Yes. We carry performance visors for running, tennis, pickleball and golf, and we embroider or print your logo on the front panel. Because that panel is short, logos run wide and short, about 1.5 inches tall or less. You'll preview your design in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is produced, and orders of 100+ pieces get a free mockup.

Are your running hats waterproof?

Most running hats are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. A water-repellent nylon or polyester cap sheds drizzle and dries fast, which is what runners need. Fully waterproof hats use coated fabric and sealed seams, and they trap heat. For rainy-season races, a quick-drying cap with a water-repellent finish is the better choice.

Can I order a single personalized running hat?

Yes. There's no minimum, so you can order one cap with a name, a race and finish time, or a club logo. Logo embroidery has a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design, embroidered names are $10 per name, and DTF printing has no setup fee. Larger orders lower the cost per hat because setup is shared across more pieces.

Can I get custom running hats before race day if the date is close?

Yes, in many cases. Rush orders are available for a fee quoted with your order. Tell us your in-hand date and we'll confirm it before you approve the mockup. Approving the mockup quickly and sending vector artwork up front are the two easiest ways to keep a tight race date on track.
