Custom Sweatshirts for Kids, Youth & Babies

Custom sweatshirts for kids are the easiest personalized gift to get right: a name, a favorite drawing, a school logo or the same design the grown-ups are wearing. We embroider or print youth, toddler and baby sizes with no minimum, so one birthday sweatshirt is as welcome as a full class order. Design it live in our 3D Custom Designer or request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces, and match the family with our adult sweatshirts and sweaters.

Youth, Toddler and Infant Sizing Explained

Kids' sizes run on three ladders, and each brand cuts a little differently. Use this as a starting point, then check the size chart on each product page.

Size Roughly fits Good to know
Infant 6M to 24M Babies, by age in months Babies grow fast, so size up
Toddler 2T to 5/6 About ages 2 to 5 Shorter body, roomier through the belly
Youth XS About 4 to 5 years The bridge from toddler to youth
Youth S Size 6 to 8
Youth M Size 10 to 12
Youth L Size 14 to 16
Youth XL Size 18 to 20 Close to an adult small in the chest, but shorter

The most reliable method: lay a sweatshirt that fits your child now on a flat surface, measure armpit to armpit, and compare it with the chart. Most parents size up one so it lasts a season or two; sleeves can be pushed up, but a short body can't be fixed. For tweens between youth XL and adult small, the adult small usually wins on sleeve and body length.

We carry infant, toddler and youth sizes, and many of the same styles run in adult sizes too, which makes matching family sets easy.

Personalized Baby Sweaters With Names

Search for a baby name sweater and you'll mostly find hand-knit pieces with the name worked into the yarn. Ours take a different route: the name is embroidered or printed onto a soft infant sweatshirt, so it's ready to order in any font and color and survives the constant washing baby clothes get.

Tiny garments need tiny-garment design choices:

  • Keep the chest design about 3 to 4 inches wide on infant sizes, so it doesn't wrap into the armholes.
  • Letters at least half an inch tall for embroidered names, especially in script, so the loops stay open.
  • Long names in two lines read better than one line squeezed small.
  • Stitch or print, don't attach. On babies, skip patches and anything else that sits on the surface.

Favorite ideas include the name with a birth date, a "Big Sister" or "Little Brother" announcement sweatshirt, a first-holiday design, and a monogram that grandparents can't resist. For bodysuits and other first outfits, see our personalized baby clothes.

Name and Initial Sweatshirts Kids Love

Kids care about their name more than almost anything, so most orders start there. Block and varsity letters read from across a playground, bubble letters feel playful, and script looks sweet on younger kids. A single oversized initial, embroidered or printed big, is a bold, simple design that works at any age.

Size the design to the child. A youth chest looks best with a design about 7 to 9 inches wide, and a toddler chest about 5 to 6 inches, compared with roughly 12 inches on an adult. Names down a sleeve should be at least half an inch tall.

The best idea might already be on your fridge. A child's own drawing turns into a one-of-a-kind sweatshirt:

  • Print it with DTF to keep every crayon stroke and color.
  • Embroider it for a cleaner, simplified line version that lasts for years.
  • Capture it well. Photograph the drawing flat in daylight with no shadows, or scan it at 300 dpi.

Birthday numbers, "Est." birth years and favorite animals round out the list. For more, browse our kid-friendly design ideas and step-by-step tips.

Youth Sweatshirts for School Spirit Days and Branded Team Gear

Schools, PTAs, booster clubs, camps, dance studios and youth leagues usually need the same design across youth and adult sizes in one order. That's simple here: no minimum, one design, and a size breakdown.

Embroidery digitizing is $35 per logo, DTF has no setup fee, and screen-print setup for orders of 100+ is quoted with the order. Setup fees are one-time per design: reorders, and the same design on other products or sizes, never pay them again; only a design change needs new setup. You'll preview every design in our 3D Custom Designer before anything is produced, and bulk orders of 100+ pieces get a free mockup showing the design on the smallest and largest garments.

For spirit wear, start with our school spirit sweatshirts for mascots, grade levels and class years. Leagues and clubs can add player names and numbers with our youth team sweatshirts, and a sponsor's branded logo fits neatly on a sleeve or upper back. Bring artwork you have permission to use, such as a school or league logo provided by the organization.

Orlando-area schools and teams can pick up finished orders at our Orlando-area warehouse, and we ship anywhere in the US.

Matching Sibling and Parent Sets

Matching sets are made for holiday photos, reunions, birthday trips and a family day at the theme parks. The trick is to keep the design shared and the details personalized: the same graphic on everyone, with each name or role ("Big Bro," "Lil Sis," "Mama") added piece by piece. DTF handles a different name on every sweatshirt with no setup fee.

Two tips for a set that really matches. Choose a style made in both adult and youth sizes, since one brand's navy can look different from another's. And let us scale the artwork for each size, so the toddler's design isn't swallowed and the adult's isn't tiny.

Mama, grandma and dad versions live with our matching family name sweatshirts. For warmer Florida days, carry the same design onto kids' t-shirts, or add a hood with our kids' hoodies.

Soft Fleece, Safe Inks and Washing Tips

Fabric. A 50/50 cotton-poly fleece is the kid-proof standard: durable, low-shrink and great for prints. Cotton-rich blends such as 80/20 feel softer, and 100% cotton is softest of all but shrinks more in a hot dryer. Midweight youth fleece is plenty for a Central Florida winter.

Decoration and safety. Printed and embroidered designs are part of the garment, with no small parts to come loose. DTG (not a method we offer) uses water-based inks that soak into cotton for the softest feel, which suits sensitive skin. DTF and screen prints sit on top as a thin, flexible layer. Embroidery leaves a soft backing inside, so keep designs small on baby sizes. Crewneck sweatshirts also skip the hood and drawstring entirely; the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission treats hood and neck drawstrings on children's upper outerwear in sizes 2T to 12 as a strangulation hazard.

Washing. Kids' sweatshirts get washed constantly, so treat them right:

  • Turn inside out and wash cold on a gentle cycle.
  • Tumble dry low or hang dry.
  • Skip bleach, and skip fabric softener on printed pieces.
  • Pre-treat stains from the inside, rather than scrubbing hard on the print.
  • Wash baby pieces before the first wear, as you would any new baby clothes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum on custom youth sweatshirts?

No. You can order a single youth sweatshirt. DTF has no setup fee, which makes it ideal for one-off gifts. Embroidery has a $35 digitizing fee per logo and screen printing (100+ pieces) a quoted setup, both one-time per design: reorders and the same design in other sizes never pay them again.

What sizes do kids' sweatshirts come in?

Most styles come in toddler sizes (2T to 5/6) and youth XS to XL, which covers roughly ages 2 to the early teens. Infant sizes run by months, usually 6M to 24M. Exact measurements vary by brand, so compare a sweatshirt that fits now with each product's size chart.

Can you add a baby's name to a sweater?

Yes. We embroider or print a baby's name on our infant and toddler sweatshirts, in your choice of font and thread or ink color. Keep embroidered letters at least half an inch tall so they stay crisp, and add a birth date or initials if you like. You'll preview the name at actual size before anything is stitched.

Are your prints safe for toddlers?

Printed and embroidered designs become part of the garment, with nothing attached that can come loose. DTF and screen prints form a thin, flexible layer on top; DTG, which we don't offer, uses water-based inks that soak into cotton. For babies and sensitive skin, a cotton-rich blank is the softest choice; DTG prints feel softest, though we print with DTF. Each product lists its fabric content.

Can we order matching adult and kids' sweatshirts?

Yes. Choose a style made in both adult and youth sizes, then use one design across the whole family, with names or roles added piece by piece. We scale the artwork so it fits a toddler chest as well as an adult one, and the same design is never charged a second setup fee for different sizes.

Can you turn my child's drawing into a sweatshirt?

Yes. Photograph the drawing flat in good daylight or scan it at 300 dpi, then upload it to our 3D Custom Designer. Printing keeps every crayon stroke and color, while embroidery simplifies it into clean lines. Custom sweatshirts for kids made from their own artwork tend to be kept long after they're outgrown.
