Custom Fire Department Hats

Custom fire department hats put your department patch, Maltese cross, station number or rank on caps your crew wears every shift. Choose low-profile station caps, truckers or knit beanies, embroidered in uniform colors, for career departments, volunteer companies, union locals and firefighter families. Station Caps, Truckers and Beanies for Crews

Station caps. The classic is a low-profile, six-panel cap in cotton twill with a pre-curved bill and a hook-and-loop or metal-buckle back. It sits close to the head, looks right with a Class B uniform and holds a front logo cleanly. Stretch-fit Flexfit versions, including XL sizes, skip the adjustable back for a cleaner uniform look.

Performance caps. Lightweight polyester with a wicking sweatband suits training days, PT and Florida summers. It's the cap crews actually want to wear on a long, humid apparatus check.

Truckers. A structured front with a mesh back for off-duty wear, cookouts and branded station merch. The tall front panel takes a larger logo or a patch.

Beanies. Cuffed knit beanies keep the department mark visible through winter and on early-morning calls. See our embroidered beanies for crews for cuffed and pom-pom styles in department colors.

Stitching Department Logos, Station Numbers and Rank

Fire department artwork is usually detailed: a shield or Maltese cross with tools, a ladder, the department name in a ring and a founding year. On a cap, that design gets about 2.5 to 4 inches of width, so it needs to be digitized for thread, not just shrunk.

  • Simplify small details. Tiny ring lettering and fine lines are thickened or dropped so they stay readable at hat size. You'll preview your design in our 3D Custom Designer before production, and orders of 100+ pieces get a free mockup.
  • Use the side panels. A station or unit number on the left side and the company name or "Engine 7" on the right is a common, clean layout.
  • Put names on the back. First initial and last name above the closure, usually in a simple block font about 3/8 inch tall, keeps caps from getting mixed up at the station.
  • Mark rank clearly. Many departments signal officer rank with bugle insignia, and some switch to gold thread for chief officers, as this county fire department ball cap standard does.
  • Go bold with 3D puff. Raised 3D puff embroidery makes "FIRE," a station number or a short department name stand out on a structured front.
  • Consider a patch. A department patch in embroidered, PVC or leather form works well on truckers and off-duty caps. Leather with a debossed Maltese cross has a heritage look.

Embroidery has a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design. After that, the file is downloadable from your account, and reorders or the same design on beanies, shirts and jackets never pay it again. For more layouts, browse our firefighter hat design ideas.

Caps, Not Helmets: What We Decorate

People searching for custom fire hats sometimes mean the traditional leather helmet or a helmet front shield. Structural firefighting helmets are certified protective gear sold by fire-equipment suppliers, and we don't make or decorate them. What we do decorate is headwear worn around the station, at events and off duty: station caps, truckers, performance caps, beanies and visors.

We also decorate only the blanks we supply, so we can't stitch caps the department already has in stock. If your department requires flame-resistant headwear for certain duties, ask us before you order.

Branded Fundraiser Caps for Unions and Volunteer Companies

Caps are one of the easiest fundraising items to sell: one size fits most, and firefighter families, neighbors and local businesses wear them proudly.

  • Volunteer companies. Sell branded caps at pancake breakfasts, open houses, boot drives and holiday events. A two-color design keeps cost down and reads well from across a parking lot.
  • Union locals. Branded caps for members, conventions and community events, stitched with your local's approved artwork.
  • Awareness caps. Pink thread for October, a thin red line flag on the side or a memorial date for a fallen member.
  • Kids' caps. Youth sizes make a hit at open houses and fire-safety events, where small firefighters want a hat that matches the crew.

With no minimum, you can start with a small first run, see what sells and reorder without paying setup again.

Retirement Hats: A Personalized Send-Off for Firefighters

A retirement cap is a small gift that gets worn for years. Popular personalized details include the firefighter's name, badge number, station and years of service ("1998–2026"), with "RETIRED" stitched under the department logo or across the back. Matching caps for the whole shift at the retirement party make a good photo, too.

Promotion caps work the same way: the new rank, the date and the station on the side. These personalized custom firefighter hats pair well with a hoodie in the same colors as a gift set.

Uniform-Friendly Colors and Styles

Most department uniform policies favor navy, black or charcoal caps with a front-center logo, and some reserve black or gold detailing for chief officers. Before ordering, check your department's written standard for:

  • Approved cap colors and thread colors
  • Front logo, side designators and whether names are allowed on the back
  • Closure type, and whether stretch-fit or adjustable caps are allowed
  • Whether station caps are worn only at their own station

A branded uniform looks consistent when every piece shares one logo file. Many departments order station tees and duty shirts and department hoodies with the same digitized design and thread colors.

Department Ordering and Purchase Orders

  1. Send your artwork. SVG or PDF files are best; a high-resolution PNG or JPG is accepted, and AI and EPS files upload in our 3D Custom Designer too. A clean photo of the patch works for simple designs.
  2. Choose styles and the size mix. Adjustable caps fit roughly a 7 to 7 5/8 hat size; stretch-fit caps come in sized options, including XL.
  3. Approve your mockup. Check logo size, thread colors, side text and back names.
  4. Reorder as you hire. New members get matching caps later without paying setup again.

If your department is ordering 100+ items and pays by purchase order or needs tax-exempt paperwork on file, tell us when you request your quote and we'll confirm how we can invoice it. Rush orders are available for a fee quoted with your order. Departments across the Orlando metro can pick up finished orders at our Orlando-area warehouse, and every order can ship anywhere in the US.

Caring for station caps

Spot-clean with cold water, a drop of mild detergent and a soft brush. Skip the washer, dryer and dishwasher, since heat can warp the bill and pucker embroidery. Air-dry the cap on a rolled towel so it keeps its shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you embroider our department logo on hats?

Yes. Send your department patch or logo, and we'll digitize it for a cap, simplifying fine details so it stays readable at hat size. The one-time $35 digitizing fee covers that design for good, including reorders and the same logo on beanies, shirts and hoodies. Preview it in our 3D Custom Designer, or request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces to approve a free mockup before production.

Do you accept purchase orders from fire departments?

Yes, on orders of 100+ items through our team. Tell us whether your department pays by purchase order, needs a formal quote for approval or has tax-exempt paperwork, and we'll confirm how we can invoice the order before you approve the mockup.

What hat styles are uniform-friendly?

Low-profile, six-panel station caps in navy, black or charcoal cotton twill are the most common uniform choice, with a front-center logo and an optional station number on the side. Stretch-fit caps look the cleanest with a uniform. Always check your department's written standard for approved colors, markings and closures.

Do you make firefighter retirement gifts?

Yes. Retirement caps are a popular personalized gift, with the firefighter's name, badge number, station and years of service, plus "RETIRED" under the department logo. You can order a single cap, or matching caps for the shift at the party. Pair it with a hoodie in department colors for a gift set.

How many custom fire department hats do we have to order?

There's no minimum. A department can order a full roster, a volunteer company can start with a small fundraiser run, and a family can order one retirement cap. Larger orders cost less per hat because the one-time setup is shared across more pieces.
