The Classic Crew: Custom Fits, Fabrics and Weights

A crewneck is a pullover with a round, ribbed collar, ribbed cuffs and a ribbed waistband. Simple, but the details change how it wears.

Fits. Classic unisex crews are cut straight with set-in sleeves. Relaxed and oversized styles drop the shoulder for a boxier, streetwear look. Women's crews are more tapered, and some are cropped. Raglan sleeves, which run in one diagonal seam from collar to underarm, give a sporty, vintage look.

Fabrics.

  • 50/50 cotton-poly fleece: the workhorse. Holds its shape, shrinks little, and takes screen printing, DTF and embroidery well.
  • 80/20 or ringspun cotton-rich fleece: softer and more premium, great for DTG and embroidery.
  • 100% cotton French terry: loops inside instead of brushed fleece, so it breathes, which makes sense in Florida.
  • Garment-dyed: dyed after it's sewn, giving a washed, lived-in color with slight variation from piece to piece.

Weights. Standard fleece runs about 7.5 to 9 oz. Heavyweight crews start around 10 oz and feel dense and structured; see our heavyweight crewneck blanks if you want that retail-brand hand.

Embroidered Crewnecks: Left Chest, Center and Sleeve

A custom embroidered crewneck is the polished choice for a logo, a monogram or a small word. Common placements:

  • Left chest: 3.5 to 4 inches wide, the classic spot for branded logos and initials
  • Center chest: a word or wordmark about 6 to 9 inches wide, popular for vintage-style designs
  • Sleeve: names, dates or a small icon near the cuff or down the forearm
  • Back neck: a tiny logo or year just under the collar

Embroidery is priced by stitch count, so a left-chest logo costs far less to stitch than a full-front design. Every new design is digitized once for a one-time $35 fee, the file stays in your account to download, and reorders of the same design skip the fee. Printed Crewneck Sweatshirts for Bold Graphics

When the design is big, colorful or detailed, print it. A custom printed crewneck sweatshirt can carry a design up to about 12 inches wide across an adult front, plus back and sleeve prints.

  • Screen printing: bold spot colors, very durable, and the most economical choice for runs of 100+ of one design, through our team. Setup is quoted with the order, charged once per design, and reorders skip it.
  • DTG: photographic detail and soft ink on cotton-rich crews (not offered here; we print photos with DTF).
  • DTF: full color on blends, polyester and dark garments, ideal for personalized names that change piece to piece. No setup fee.
  • Sublimation all-over print: edge-to-edge color on white or light polyester crews (not a method we offer).

Gift and Event Crewnecks With Personalized Details

A crewneck is the easiest personalized gift to get right, because almost everyone wears one. Popular ideas for a custom crew neck sweatshirt include a family name with an "Est." year, a best friend's inside joke on the sleeve, a pet portrait, or matching crews for a bachelorette weekend, reunion or birthday trip.

Keep a few things in mind: short text reads best, one strong image beats five small ones, and names on a sleeve should be at least half an inch tall. With no minimum, you can order a single gift or one for everyone in the group. If it's your first time, start with our guide to designing your first crewneck.

Branded Crewnecks for Small Labels and Merch Drops

Crewnecks are the backbone of small apparel brands, bands, cafés, gyms and creators. No minimums mean you can order a single sample, check the fit and the print, and then scale up once the design proves itself.

How growing labels usually handle it:

  • Test with DTF. No setup fee, so short runs and size-curve experiments stay affordable.
  • Scale with screen printing. Once a design sells 100+ pieces, the one-time per-color setup is spread across the run.
  • Choose the blank deliberately. Garment-dyed and heavyweight crews feel retail; standard fleece keeps margins healthy.
  • Keep branded basics in rotation. A left-chest embroidered logo crew is a staple for staff and loyal customers alike.

Crewneck, Hoodie or Quarter-Zip?

A crewneck gives you the cleanest, flattest front for large designs and layers easily under a jacket or over a collared shirt. A hoodie adds a hood and a front pocket that pushes prints higher; we can make hoodie versions of any design. A quarter-zip reads more professional for branded office wear, coaches and client meetings, with logos placed beside the zipper; compare our quarter-zip alternatives.

Sizing, Shrinkage and Care

Lay a crewneck you already like flat, measure armpit to armpit and collar to hem, and compare with each product's size chart. For relaxed or oversized styles, stay true to size; sizing up gets very roomy.

Shrinkage depends on fiber. 100% cotton can shrink a few percent in a hot dryer, 50/50 blends shrink much less, and garment-dyed crews have already been washed once, so they're the most stable. To keep fit and decoration looking new, wash inside out in cold water, tumble dry low or hang dry, skip bleach, and never iron directly on a print or embroidery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum for custom crewneck sweatshirts?

No. You can order a single crewneck. Embroidery carries a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design, screen printing (for orders of 100+) a quoted one-time setup, and DTF has no setup fee at all, so personalized one-off gifts and samples usually go DTF. Larger runs spread any setup cost across more pieces.

What's the difference between a crewneck sweater and a crewneck sweatshirt?

A crewneck sweatshirt is made from fleece or French terry, usually cotton or cotton-poly, with a smooth face that takes prints and embroidery. A crewneck sweater is knitted from yarn and has visible stitches and texture. Both share the round collar; sweaters are best decorated with embroidery, while sweatshirts handle both print and stitching.

Where should embroidery go on a crewneck?

The left chest is the classic spot, sized about 3.5 to 4 inches wide for logos and monograms. A centered wordmark across the chest is popular for vintage looks, and sleeves suit names or dates. A small detail under the back collar adds a finishing touch. Your proof shows the exact size and placement.

Do crewneck sweatshirts shrink after printing?

The decoration doesn't cause shrinkage, but the fabric can shrink in hot washes and dryers. 100% cotton shrinks the most, 50/50 blends far less, and garment-dyed crews are pre-washed. Wash cold, dry low, and size with the chart in mind if you're choosing an all-cotton crew.

Your brand. Beautifully made.
