Retro Camp-Collar Bowling Shirts

The classic bowling shirt is a mid-century design that never really went away: a flat camp collar that lies open, a straight hem worn untucked, short sleeves and a boxy body that leaves your arm room to swing. Many styles add a chest pocket, contrast piping or a two-tone panel down the front.

Fabric changes how the shirt looks and feels by the tenth frame:

  • Polyester and poly microfiber: holds bright color, resists wrinkles and dries fast. The practical pick for a sweaty league night or a Florida summer.
  • Rayon and rayon blends: the true vintage drape and soft sheen, but they wrinkle and need gentler washing.
  • Cotton blends: breathable, easy to stitch and a little more casual.

Retro fans don't need a league to wear one. Camp-collar shirts work for themed birthdays, rockabilly nights and car shows, and they pair well with our retro and band tees when the whole group wants a vintage look.

League Shirts Branded With Team and Sponsor Logos

League shirts follow a layout that's been around for decades, and it still works:

  • Upper back: the team name, logo or sponsor, about 10 to 12 inches wide so it reads from the next lane. This is the biggest decoration on the shirt.
  • Left chest: the bowler's first name or nickname over the pocket, about 3 to 4 inches wide.
  • Right chest or sleeve: a league logo, a center name or a second sponsor mark.

Sponsored teams are a natural fit for branded shirts. A bar, pro shop or local business pays for the shirts and gets its logo in front of every team on the lanes, every week of the season. Send the sponsor's logo as an SVG or PDF file for the cleanest result; a high-resolution PNG or JPG is accepted too, and AI and EPS files can be sent with a bulk quote.

If the same sponsor backs softball, trivia or office teams, our team and league shirts keep every squad in matching branded gear.

Nicknames and Player Names on the Back

Names make a bowling shirt yours. The traditional spot is the left chest in script, but plenty of teams also run a personalized nickname or last name across the lower back, jersey-style, under the team name.

Because each name is different, names go on shirt by shirt. On a button-up you pick one method for the whole shirt: embroidered names at $10 per name, or DTF printed names on the chest or back, which have no setup fee. On performance jerseys, names and numbers are printed with DTF.

To keep the order clean, send one roster with each bowler's name exactly as it should appear, their shirt size and any number. Check spelling and capitalization twice; the list is what goes on the shirts. Stuck on a team name? "Split Happens" is a classic, but our funny shirt ideas can help you find something your league hasn't heard yet.

All-Over Sublimated Designs vs. Embroidered Classics

There are two ways to build a league shirt, and they look nothing alike:

Sublimated all-over Embroidered button-up
Look Edge-to-edge color: flames, pins, checkerboard, photos Solid or two-tone shirt with stitched logo and names
Fabric White or light polyester Polyester, cotton or blends
Feel No added weight; the design is in the fabric Raised thread with a textured, premium look
Names Printed into the design Stitched on the chest, or DTF on the back
One-time setup Not offered by us (we print with DTF) $35 digitizing per design
Best for Bold teams, tournaments, dart jerseys Sponsored teams and the retro look

Sublimation uses heat to turn dye into a gas that bonds with polyester fibers, so the design can't crack or peel and the shirt breathes like bare fabric. Our guide to sublimation printing explains how it compares with DTF and vinyl transfers. We don't offer sublimation; for a tropical look, see our custom Hawaiian shirts.

Embroidery is the traditional finish, and a stitched logo lasts as long as the shirt. Our embroidered button-downs bring that look to the office, and the custom embroidery page explains how logos are digitized and stitched across every garment.

Designing a Bowling Shirt Online, With a Preview First

  1. Pick the style: camp-collar button-up, performance jersey or a tee for the casual crew.
  2. Choose colors. Two contrasting team colors read best across the bowling center; bright names on dark shirts are easy to spot from the settee.
  3. Add your art. Upload a team or sponsor logo, or send a sketch with a bulk quote request (100+ pieces).
  4. Fill in the roster: names, numbers and sizes in one list.
  5. Approve your design. Preview it in our 3D Custom Designer; bulk orders of 100+ pieces get a free mockup.

Embroidered logos carry a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design; once it's paid you can download the digitized file from your account. Screen printing a team logo, for orders of 100+ pieces through our team, has a setup fee quoted with the order. Both fees are one-time per design, so reorders skip them. DTF has no setup fee. Per-shirt price depends on the shirt, the method, the stitch count or ink colors, and how many spots you decorate; live prices are on each product page.

Season starting soon? Rush orders are available, and the rush fee is quoted with your order. Orlando-metro teams can pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse, and every order can ship anywhere in the US.

Dart League and Pub Team Shirts

Dart leagues share bowling's culture: a sponsor bar, a team name and a roster full of nicknames. Custom dart shirts usually go one of two ways: a sublimated polo or jersey with the team graphic all over, or a bowling-style button-up with a stitched logo.

Darts means standing at the oche and repeating the same throwing motion all night, so a lightweight polyester with a little stretch keeps the shoulder free. Put each player's name across the upper back or on the sleeve so opponents and the scorekeeper can read it. Pool, cornhole and trivia teams order the same way.

Sizing for Men, Women and Plus

Bowling shirts run boxy by design. Men's and unisex cuts are straight through the body and meant to be worn untucked; women's cuts add shaped side seams, narrower shoulders and a shorter length. We carry camp-collar bowling shirts in extended sizes through 5XL and beyond, so check each product's size chart for measurements before you collect sizes.

Measure your best-fitting button-up flat, armpit to armpit, and compare it with the chart. Leave room to swing: a shirt that's snug across the back pulls at the buttons on every approach. Mixed teams can order men's and women's cuts in the same design.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I design custom bowling shirts online?

Pick a shirt style and color, upload your team logo or a sketch, and add each bowler's name and size. No artwork? Request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces and we'll lay out the design for you. You'll preview it live in our 3D Custom Designer, or approve a free mockup on bulk orders, so names, colors and placement are confirmed before production.

Can every bowler's name go on the back?

Yes. Every shirt can carry a different name, nickname or number on the back, the chest or both. Each shirt uses one decoration method: printed names (DTF) have no setup fee, while embroidered names are $10 per name. On performance jerseys, names and numbers are printed with DTF. Send one roster with names exactly as they should appear.

What's the difference between sublimated and embroidered bowling shirts?

Sublimation dyes a full-color design into white or light polyester, so the whole shirt can carry patterns, photos and names with no added weight. Embroidery stitches thread onto the shirt for a raised, classic finish that suits solid camp-collar styles. Sublimation suits bold all-over looks, though we don't offer it (we print full-color designs with DTF); embroidery suits a traditional, sponsor-ready shirt.

Do you make shirts for dart leagues too?

Yes. Dart teams get the same options as bowlers: jerseys and polos with full-color DTF graphics, or button-ups with a stitched logo and player names. Pool, cornhole and trivia teams order the same way. Send your sponsor's logo, team name and roster with a bulk quote request for 100+ pieces, and we'll build a free mockup for the whole team.

How many shirts do we need for a league team?

Order one for each rostered bowler and each regular substitute, plus a spare if someone might join mid-season. Most league formats use teams of three to five bowlers. There's no minimum, so adding a single shirt later is easy, and reorders of the same design skip the one-time setup fees.
