Branded Warm-Ups for Game Day

A good warm-up sweatshirt goes on over a jersey, comes off fast and survives a season of bag-stuffing. Three styles cover most teams:

  • Crewnecks for the biggest front logo and an easy pull-over fit
  • Quarter-zips for coaches, staff and players who want to vent heat between innings or sets
  • Raglan-sleeve pullovers, whose diagonal shoulder seams give a little more range of motion

Midweight fleece, around 7.5 to 9 oz, is the sweet spot for Central Florida, where fall nights and spring tournament mornings are cool but rarely cold. For a closer look at fabric weights and brands, see our warm-up blank comparison. Prefer a hood for the bench? The same designs work on our team hoodies.

Football, Baseball and Softball Sweatshirts

Football sweatshirts borrow from the jersey: block numbers, a bold team name across the chest and the mascot on the back. Coaching staff usually go with branded quarter-zips and a stitched left-chest logo for a sharper sideline look.

Baseball and softball have their own tradition: the team name in a flowing script with an underline swoosh, a number on the back or left sleeve, and a small cap logo on the cuff. A pullover over the jersey makes early-morning tournament games bearable, and it comes off once the sun is up. For practice tees and game uniforms, pair these with our team shirts and jerseys.

Cheer, Volleyball and Dance Team Styles

Cheer and dance teams tend to want a fitted or cropped women's cut, the team or gym name across the chest, and each athlete's name down a sleeve. Competition-season sweatshirts often add the year and the team's division. Volleyball players like a small number on the left chest or hip and the club name across the back, so it reads from the stands.

Women's and unisex cuts can go in the same order with the same design. We'll size the artwork for each so it sits right on both.

Hockey Sweatshirts and Hockey-Style Sweaters

Hockey players call their jersey a sweater, and plenty of teams want that look off the ice. We build it on a crewneck or pullover: a crest on the chest, numbers on both sleeves and a big number with the name across the back. An embroidered patch makes a classic hockey crest with real texture, and 3D puff embroidery lifts a bold logo off a matching cap (we offer puff on hats only). We don't stock the laced-collar hockey hoodie style.

Keeping hockey sweatshirts affordable comes down to a few choices: a standard-weight blank, one or two ink colors, and one print location for the logo. DTF handles the names and numbers that change from player to player, with no setup fee.

Numbers on the Back, Personalized Names Across the Shoulders

Player names and numbers turn a team sweatshirt into that player's own. Common sizes on an adult sweatshirt:

  • Back numbers: about 8 to 10 inches tall (6 to 8 inches on youth sizes)
  • Names across the shoulders: letters about 2 to 3 inches tall, arched or straight
  • Sleeve numbers: about 3 to 3.5 inches; chest numbers: about 3 to 4 inches

The smart split, on orders of 100+, is to screen print what's identical on every piece, like the logo, and use DTF for names and numbers, which change from player to player and carry no setup fee. A two-color logo screen printed on 100+ sweatshirts carries two screens, set up once. An embroidered crest carries a one-time $35 digitizing fee, and the file stays downloadable in your account. Reordering the same design next season skips both fees.

Parent, Fan and Booster Club Sweatshirts

The stands want gear too. Parent versions often swap the player name for "Mom," "Dad" or "Grandpa" with the player's number, and siblings get the same design in their own size. Booster clubs sell fan sweatshirts at games as fundraisers, and because screen printing gets cheaper per piece as the run grows, a bigger fan order helps the budget.

Add fan and family pieces to the team order so everything matches. School teams can also browse our school and college sweatshirts for spirit wear beyond the roster.

Getting Every Player Sized Right

Sizing is where team orders go wrong, so collect it early in a shared spreadsheet with columns for player name, number, youth or adult, and size. A few tips:

  1. Size youth players up if the sweatshirt has to last a full season of growth.
  2. Check the crossover. A youth XL is close to an adult small in many brands, so compare the chart for players in between.
  3. Measure a favorite sweatshirt laid flat, armpit to armpit, if a player can't try one on.
  4. Plan artwork for both ranges. We scale the logo so it sits in proportion on youth sizes, and because setup is charged once per design, the youth version adds no new screen or digitizing fee. DTF scales each piece with no setup fee at all.

Design it in our 3D Custom Designer, or request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces and approve a free mockup before anything is produced. Orlando-area teams can pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse, and every order can ship anywhere in the US. Live prices for each blank are on the product pages. Outfitting the whole program? Frequently Asked Questions

Can every player's sweatshirt have a different name and number?

Yes. Send a roster spreadsheet with each player's name, number and size, and every piece is decorated to match it. DTF is the usual method for names and numbers because it has no setup fee, so twenty different names cost nothing extra to set up. The team logo can still be embroidered, or screen printed on orders of 100+.

Do you carry athletic or performance fleece?

Yes. We carry polyester performance fleece as well as standard cotton-poly, and each product lists its fabric content. Polyester takes DTF, embroidery and sublimation well (we don't offer sublimation). Screen printing on polyester uses low-bleed ink, at no extra charge.

How far ahead should a team order?

Start as soon as the roster is set, since collecting sizes and approving the design usually takes longer than expected. Embroidery needs digitizing and screen printing needs screens, while DTF goes into production once art is approved. Up against a first game or tournament? Rush orders are available, and the rush fee is quoted with your order.

Can youth and adult sizes go in the same order?

Yes. Youth and adult custom team sweatshirts can share one order and one design, and our youth sweatshirts come in a full range of kids' sizes. Resizing the logo for youth sizes adds no new setup fee with any method, because screen and digitizing setup is charged once per design.
